Another Project
Poker – Starting a Passion
Firstly, I have to apologize once this blog is to discuss about different topics that (I believe) has some relevance in our lives. However, after finishing my group project last weekend I need to talk a little about it, once I am very satisfied withe the final result. I have to say that when I started my second blog (which is a group blog) I wasn’t so motivated with the blog and still less confident about the result we would get. Questions like: “Are we going to be able to get it done on time ?”, “Will our work be worst than the work from the other groups ?” and “Are we ever going start it ?” stayed in my head for several days. Book Tip
The Merde
Today I’m not going to give you a book tip about one book, I am going to to present you a series of books from the same author, Stephen Clark. He writes about Paul, a British guy who goes to Paris to work and figure out that it isn’t easy to become a Parisian. Moreover, Paul start a journey of mistakes that everyone who once lived abroad will indentify (and maybe realize that they passed for the same or similar situation once).
However, Paul’s adventure doesn’t stop in Paris. In subsequent books Paul goes to USA and also has the funniest adventure in the south of France. So if you want to read a funny book where you will be able not only to laugh but also to learn about Parisian, Americans, their habits and learn specially what you should never do when you are far from home ( mainly in Paris), those are the perfect books to you :
Iran and social networking sites
The power of comunication technology
The conflicts and manifestations in Iran abated after some weeks of tension. Also, the world could saw during this weeks how violent can be dictatorial regimes when they start to feel threatened by the opposition movement. People around the globe have almost no doubt that the election result was illegally adulterated and that some social layers (mainly middle class and students) are dissatisfied with Mahmoud Ahmadinejad policies. The Iranian economy has suffered a lot with the financial crisis and measures taken by the government haven’t helped at all.
However, to me the best lesson that we can learn of the events is : how powerful communication technology can be. Why ? Read more…
BING
Better than google ?
With the release of Microsoft`s new search engine a big revolution in the way we do research in internet may be happening. Why that? Because Microsoft is more than ever disputing the search market with Google. After one of the strongest signals off hardening the dispute in the Internet market in 2008 with the development of a deal with Yahoo, now Microsoft is fighting on fields where the enemy initially take large advantage.
Microsoft promises that the release of Bing (it’s new search engine) will change the way we search in internet and that Bing isn’t just another search engine, they say in their official website : Read more…
The Crisis of Credit Visualized
Understanding the Financial Crisis
Lately, people have been writing, talking, discussing… about the financial crisis every day, there isn’t a day that newspapers, magazines and TV newscasts don’t talk about it. Also, the main subject of the economic debate is the crisis, it’s consequences and possible solutions. In politics, people spend much of the time debating about the measures that have to be taken.
However, do people really know what it is this crisis that all the experts talk about ? He is the creator of a new design practice called New Mediators which in Jonathan Jarvis words is: Read more…
Obama X fly
I couldn’t be luckier, last week the CNBC viewers witnessed one of the funniest and unexpected moment off the year. Moreover, this moment brought to light two of my recent posts: “how did it get here” and “historical times” . So what have happened that can be related to this two posts ? Well, Add New Post ‹ “let’s talk about” — WordPresslast Wednesday while Mr. Obama was giving an interview to CNBC a fly started to annoy the U.S. president.
What lesson we can draw here ? Flies are the most annoying thing in earth and there is nothing you can do to get rid of them. If the president of U.S. that has the C.I.A., F.B.I. and dozens of bodyguards was tormented by a fly it’s a sure thing that we poor mortals have no chance against them. However, Mr. President shows us the solution (watch the video below), kill them. It’s war people, kill them without pity until we finish them.
So brave reader with you think we will never win this war, just remember Obama’s words “YES WE CAN”
Documentaries
The funny and interesting way to don’t become an alienated
According to the American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language a documentary is: “A work, such as a film or television program, presenting political, social, or historical subject matter in a factual and informative manner and often consisting of actual news films or interviews accompanied by narration.” and “1. Consisting of, concerning, or based on documents. 2. Presenting facts objectively without editorializing or inserting fictional matter, as in a book or film.”
However, nowadays a documentary it isn’t only a “film or television program, presenting political, social, or historical subject matter in a factual and informative manner” and definitely making and producing a documentary isn’t “presenting facts objectively without editorializing”. So what it is a documentary ?
Actually if you think about documentaries like the ones in National Geographic or Discovery Channel, they really fit in the description above. Nevertheless, when we talk about documentaries made by people like Michael Moore (Fahrenheit9/11, Sicko, Bowling for Columbine), Jennifer Abbot and Marck Achbar (both made The Corporation) and Bill Bonner (I.O.U.S.A) the American Heritage description doesn’t fit at all. Why that? Because they are produced more like movies than documentaries and are edited in order to support the author’s point of view… Read more…
